A practical guide to gyms in Fort Collins — and what makes semi-private training different.

Fort Collins has a reputation for being an active town.

You’ll see people running the Spring Creek Trail at 6am, biking to work in February, and treating outdoor recreation like it’s a competitive sport. The fitness culture here is real, and it runs deep.

But if you’re new to the area and trying to figure out where to actually work out, the options can feel overwhelming fast.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s available in NoCo, who it’s actually good for, and how to figure out what fits your life.

The Big Box Gym

Fort Collins has the usual suspects. Planet Fitness, Crunch Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness-style setups. Low monthly cost, lots of equipment, nobody bothers you.

If you’re self-directed, already know what you’re doing, and just need a space to work, these are fine.

The problem is that most people who join a big box gym stop going within 90 days. Not because they lack discipline. Because there’s no structure, no plan, and no one holding you accountable. You’re on your own.

Group Fitness Studios

Orange Theory, cycling studios, F45-style classes. These are popular in Fort Collins, and for good reason.

They’re energetic. They’re social. They give you a time and a place to show up.

The downside is that the programming is the same for everyone. If you have a bad knee, a shoulder issue, or you’re just starting out after years off, nobody’s adjusting the workout for you. You adapt to the class. The class doesn’t adapt to you.

CrossFit

There are a handful of CrossFit gyms in Fort Collins, and they attract a specific kind of person.

If you’re competitive, enjoy high-intensity work, and want a tight-knit community around that, CrossFit can be great. The coaches are usually good. The community tends to be strong.

It’s not for everyone, though. The intensity and complexity of the movements can be a real barrier if you’re newer to training or managing joint issues.

Personal Training

One-on-one personal training exists in Fort Collins, but it comes at a cost.

Most trainers charge $80 to $120 per session. At two sessions a week, that’s $640 to $960 a month before you’ve even paid for a gym membership. For most people, that’s not sustainable long-term.

The coaching is personalized. The price is the problem.

Semi-Private Training: The Middle Ground

Semi-private training is a format that most people in Fort Collins haven’t heard of yet. It sits between group fitness and one-on-one personal training, and it solves the problems that both of those formats leave behind.

Here’s how it works: instead of training alone or in a class of 20, you train in a small group of up to four people. Each person has their own custom program. The coach is there the entire session, moving between members, coaching in real time, and adjusting for individual needs.

You get the accountability and structure of personal training. You get the energy and community of a group. And the price reflects the shared model.

What RE:GEN Fitness Club Does Differently

RE:GEN is a semi-private personal training gym in North Fort Collins. We built it specifically for people who don’t fit neatly into any of the boxes above.

If you’ve tried the big box gym and stopped going, tried group fitness and felt lost or beat up, or looked at personal training prices and walked away, RE:GEN was designed for you.

Every member gets a custom program, a coach in the room, and a group small enough that you’re never invisible.

Sessions are 45 to 60 minutes, capped at four people, and built around strength, mobility, and longevity. The kind of training that actually holds up over time.

We also have a full recovery area with a sauna and cold plunge. It’s included in every membership, not an add-on.

How New Members Start

Every new member starts with a No-Sweat Intro. It’s a free, 20-minute conversation where we learn about your history, your goals, and what hasn’t worked before.

No workout. No sales pressure. Just a real conversation so we can figure out if RE:GEN is actually the right fit for you.

If it is, you move into OnRamp: eight private sessions over four weeks to build your foundation, establish movement quality, and get you ready for the semi-private format.

After that, you’re in. Custom programming, a consistent group, and a system that keeps you accountable.
