When Amanda first came to us in January, she was straight about why she had not been consistent. Old injuries. Motivation. And the fact that she does not love the gym.
She had not had a real strength routine in years.
She is not someone who dreads training. Traditional gyms were just never her thing.
A few months later she came in on a Monday after a rough day at work and a bad night of sleep. Every reason to cancel.
She came because she was on the schedule, and she did not want to cancel on us.
She told her coach she was taking it easy that day.
We agreed with her. Then we showed her what taking it easy actually looks like, which is different from doing nothing. Lighter loads. A couple of movements pulled back.
Here is the part that matters.
She never picked a single exercise. She did not decide what to do, how heavy to go, or what to leave out. She showed up and did what was already on the screen.
A few movements in, she decided she wanted to push.
She set a personal record on Romanian deadlifts that day.
She also cut a few sets off her last exercise, because she was tired and she had two more sessions that week. Nobody minded.
That is what a good day actually looks like. Not heroic. Just already decided, by somebody who was not exhausted when they decided it.
