48 on, 96 off, still trains three times a week

CrossFit training with wall ball

Tyler is a firefighter.

He works 48 hours on and 96 hours off, on a cycle that has nothing to do with a calendar week. His Tuesday is not next Tuesday. It never has been.

When he came in, his entire routine was lifting to failure once a week, whenever he could get to it. He had never worked with a coach.

Our intake form asks two separate questions. What made you reach out to us, and what has been getting in your way.

Tyler wrote the same word in both boxes. Accountability.

He knew exactly what the problem was. He had known for a while. What he did not have was anything outside himself that would hold a training schedule in place across a rotation that never repeats.

So we built one. He has a baseline schedule, and it carries most weeks on its own.

The part that carries the rest is that once a month he sits down and moves his sessions to match what his rotation actually looks like that month.

It takes a few minutes and he does it himself. Then it is set, and he does not think about scheduling again until the next one.

The plan for each session is already written before he walks in, so a 96-hour block off never turns into a week of deciding.

Six months later, his girlfriend left for the summer. That is exactly the kind of stretch where a routine quietly dies.

On his goal review, asked what RE:GEN had done for him, he wrote this:

Keeping my life on track through Elena being gone. RE:GEN has been a really strong rock for me.

He has trained three times a week since December. Through the rotation, through the summer, through a schedule that hands him no repeating week to build on.

He has rarely missed one.

None of that came from Tyler becoming a more disciplined person. He was already disciplined. He runs into burning buildings.

What changed is that the schedule stopped depending on him remembering to build it.
